Things are wrapping up here in Korea. This weekend I watched the last World Cup game available to me at a decent time (unless I stay up for the 3:30am Final, which I probably will.) We visited Jin in Seoul for the last time, greeted by easily the clearest day since we’ve arrived. Seoul is really a great looking city when there isn’t haze hanging all about; kind of a shame that it’s normally like that. Jin, Vic and I ate at the famous Myung Dong Kalgooksu place, then moseyed around downtown Seoul until Jin had the idea to go to the Seoul Museum and see The Thinker. I didn’t bring my camera assuming a crap day, so that was slightly disappointing, but it was a good time regardless.

These next two weeks Vic and I will be having a number of going-away dinners, as well as a night at a pension in Yongju with our bosses and our best Middle School class. Somewhat of a 4th of July-esque environment should be expected, we’ll probably be playing with water guns and grilling hot dogs. Not a terrible way to end our time here.

A lot will be happening soon after getting back (Saturday, July 17th), but I’ll save that for some other time. I’m also going to to a re-cap of our year here, preferably when my pictures aren’t scattered across 5 different computers / usb drives. You should probably hold your breath now.

I don’t hate them any more or less after spending a week with them.

I changed the layout of the site, I kind of hate walls of text on the main page. I’m thinking of trying out Vimeo for uploading my videos, Flickr chokes and dies uploading anything more than a few seconds.

All that said, I suppose I should do an update. Victoria and I have secured a job in Korea, which starts July 14th or around there. The job is located in Janghowon, which is a suburb of Icheon (not to be confused with Incheon). The city does not even have a Wikipedia article yet, so I am pretty excited about being their Neil Armstrong in that arena. Before that, I will be in Toronto again starting April 15th. What we will do for 3 months is undetermined, but I can only assume it will have to be mad cheap.

I failed the One Picture Every Day thing. I might start again when I head back to Canada or to Korea. There’s no time like the second time to fail.

What I am going to do is attempt to upload a recent, decently well taken photograph for every day of the year. My initial goal is this year, but by adopting a 4 digit numbering system, I could hypothetically go for a bit over 27 years before having to delete everything and start again. On a related note, if danpaulson.com is not available in 27 years, I’m going to kill a farmer.

So I figured a post for the new year was in order. I’m still doing fine in the frigid north, though only about a month remains before my glorious return to the States, and the subsequent trip to the Cayman Islands, and finally setteling in Korea. Christmas was good, I got stuff, as one would imagine. One of the stuffs was a camera, and I’ve been uploading lots to Flickr so you should probably check that out.

I’m not very good at this consistent blogging stuff, but I am going to try to make a point to post a bit more in the coming year as I travel all about. Like right now, I’m going to type three new years resolutions in a list format. See how that goes.

• Get in the best shape I’ve ever been in.
• Become a better and more consistent photographer.
• Cook more diverse and exciting things.

Worked out pretty good. If I didn’t think new years resolutions were totally retarded, I could come back here and observe what my past self thought my present self should be doing. But I do, and I won’t.

So there’s new pictures up on Flickr of my new place. It’s a fairly spacious apartment with a big living room, kitchen and a decently sized master bedroom. The actual building is a house, split up so three people can live in it. My front door is the back sliding window, and the back yard is mine. There’s this old guy that lives in the basement, he has a tomato garden he works on back there, which I guess is fine.

So far I’ve just been hanging out, seen a few movies which I’ll go into after Friday. The Toronto International Film Festival is happening, and the first movie I saw at it was actually really good. I’ve also been looking around for a YMCA to join, and have been working on some web design.

This desk is falling apart. I need to fix it now.

I got that. It drives nice, decent on gas, and has more gadgets than my Z. The only thing I really miss is the cockpit seats. But I’ll survive.

I think my username for every service on the internet is now danpaulson@gmail.com. E-mail, aim, msn, facebook, yahoo, twitter. If I could get danpaulson.com away from that damn dirty farmer, my internet domination would be complete. Seriously, I hate that guy so much. That is a nice hat though.

I haven’t played the WoW beta all that much, but from what I’ve seen, it seems decent. Nothing earth shattering, if you didn’t like it before this won’t change your opinion, but enough to keep current addicts stuck for another year or two. I’ve heard decent things about WAR, and of course the KOTOR MMO makes me all kinds of sexy.

So I ordered an XPS 1530M, 2.5ghz, 4gb ram, LED screen and the 8600gt. Transferring my warranty to Canada/Korea seems pretty straight forward, though I may need Jin to translate as I think the Korean service centers are devoid of English. It ships with Vista Home, and while I’m inclined to wipe it as soon as I get it and load XP, I’m thinking I may give Vista a quick look. I suppose running Vista / Linux on my laptop and OS X / XP on my mini would at least give me diversity.

My next steps for this site will be to attempt to develop my own theme. I have an idea for the layout here, but this activity is more of just practice for when I may need to do it for ifsi.org. They’re not really sure what a blog is, they thought it was “chat”, but I could see some applicable use for it that would still leave me a job. And that’s always fun.

My portable workstation is nearing completion. I picked up some new speakers over the weekend, and they actually perform quite well. They also come with a shnazzy little carrying case, “cute” was one description, but regardless they are handy and portable. The USB cable is about as small as…a small USB cable, but that’s easily overcome.

I’m thinking I need an additional external hard drive. The 750 gig is always sitting at 97-99% full, and I really want to get all of Stargate and the rest of MST3k on it. Poor Mac Mini is running out of USB ports. Other than this, all I’m really waiting on is for Dell to have a deal on an XPS1530, which from Billy I’ve heard is awesome and from limited hands on experience I’ve decided is quite good. My Dad also has this awesome SwissArmy bag that holds a laptop and like your life, but I haven’t looked much in to that.
