So I’m not going to join a group on Flickr. I’m also not going to take a self portrait of myself every day, I get sick of looking at me just thinking of it. I doubt I’ll actually be good enough to go out and take pictures every single day. I will not be making a scrapbook.

What I am going to do is attempt to upload a recent, decently well taken photograph for every day of the year. My initial goal is this year, but by adopting a 4 digit numbering system, I could hypothetically go for a bit over 27 years before having to delete everything and start again. On a related note, if danpaulson.com is not available in 27 years, I’m going to kill a farmer.

You can track my failure of this endevour on Flickr. Now stop saying I don’t post anything.

So I figured a post for the new year was in order. I’m still doing fine in the frigid north, though only about a month remains before my glorious return to the States, and the subsequent trip to the Cayman Islands, and finally setteling in Korea. Christmas was good, I got stuff, as one would imagine. One of the stuffs was a camera, and I’ve been uploading lots to Flickr so you should probably check that out.

I’m not very good at this consistent blogging stuff, but I am going to try to make a point to post a bit more in the coming year as I travel all about. Like right now, I’m going to type three new years resolutions in a list format. See how that goes.

Get in the best shape I’ve ever been in.

Become a better and more consistent photographer.

Cook more diverse and exciting things.

Worked out pretty good. If I didn’t think new years resolutions were totally retarded, I could come back here and observe what my past self thought my present self should be doing. But I do, and I won’t.

So for my first week I’ve mostly just been hanging out, coding a bit and relaxing.

When I did go out this week, it was to TIFF. Apparently this is some kind of big deal in filmland, and a cultural event for Canadians. Brad Pitt was here, and I imagine many other stars that I don’t really care about.

The first movie we saw was the world premiere (I think) of The Dungeon Masters. It’s a documentary about gamers, and not like, Counterstrike gamers. There was a lot of larping, storytelling, dudes with no jobs sitting around playing D&D writing fiction books. It was actually pretty funny sometimes, and not just because the people were so lame. Beyond that, it was also interesting to see how people completely consumed by something like this go about their lives and how their loved ones react to it . I wrote enough to wrap around the image.

The second movie we saw was the North American premiere of The Good, the bad, the Weird. Apparently this is the biggest budget, highest grossing, omfg best ever movie in South Korea. Starring people like Jung Woo-sung (?) and Lee Byung-hun (??), how could you go wrong? But seriously, people were going crazy over the guys, there were hordes of fans not seeing the movie that were just lined up outside to see these fools. So I guess they’re pretty popular. JIN TELL US.

The movie itself was well done and all, an action / comedy / western that was probably about an hour too long (130 minutes running time). It was fairly stylish, but had a kind of simple story and lots of semi-repetitive action sequences. It’s still a decent movie, but I wasn’t all “I have to go download that right now.” Also the subtitles barely had a drop shadow, and when you’re shooting in the desert, it makes for a lot of bright scenes. So I basically missed about half of what was being said.

Ok now about crap you care about. Before the last movie, we went to this Korean BBQ. For $12, you get unlimited rice, steak, pork, chicken, beef, ribs, salmon, squid, and I think it was flounder. Also included is some weird Korean vegetables. So all of this comes to you raw, and there’s a little flaming grill thingy in the middle of the table. You get tongs, and just go at it. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten that much meat in my life, and whoever comes to Toronto to visit gets that.

I still smell like meat and I love it

So there’s new pictures up on Flickr of my new place. It’s a fairly spacious apartment with a big living room, kitchen and a decently sized master bedroom. The actual building is a house, split up so three people can live in it. My front door is the back sliding window, and the back yard is mine. There’s this old guy that lives in the basement, he has a tomato garden he works on back there, which I guess is fine.

So far I’ve just been hanging out, seen a few movies which I’ll go into after Friday. The Toronto International Film Festival is happening, and the first movie I saw at it was actually really good. I’ve also been looking around for a YMCA to join, and have been working on some web design.

This desk is falling apart. I need to fix it now.

That was a lie, there’s no good news. I added a page to sell my car, but have thus far been thwarted in my attempts to actually clean and photograph my car. I was going to take it to Enterprise / Carmax today to get an estimate for a straight up trade in, but both told me they were only accepting trade-ins if I was going to buy another car. Disheartened, I decided to nap and play the internet all day instead of accomplishing things. Oh well. Somebody buy it.

I think my username for every service on the internet is now danpaulson@gmail.com. E-mail, aim, msn, facebook, yahoo, twitter. If I could get danpaulson.com away from that damn dirty farmer, my internet domination would be complete. Seriously, I hate that guy so much. That is a nice hat though.

I haven’t played the WoW beta all that much, but from what I’ve seen, it seems decent. Nothing earth shattering, if you didn’t like it before this won’t change your opinion, but enough to keep current addicts stuck for another year or two. I’ve heard decent things about WAR, and of course the KOTOR MMO makes me all kinds of sexy.

So I ordered an XPS 1530M, 2.5ghz, 4gb ram, LED screen and the 8600gt. Transferring my warranty to Canada/Korea seems pretty straight forward, though I may need Jin to translate as I think the Korean service centers are devoid of English. It ships with Vista Home, and while I’m inclined to wipe it as soon as I get it and load XP, I’m thinking I may give Vista a quick look. I suppose running Vista / Linux on my laptop and OS X / XP on my mini would at least give me diversity.

I hate Thomas Welfley. My name is Dan Paulson. Please google, track me.

Gonna have to edit for this - WOW. WOWOWOW. How am I supposed to compete with that?

Well, at the very least, it would be accurate to say that The Cyberia Project now has the base functionality required to be considered a ‘blog’ (please don’t call it that though). Unfortunately however, it leaves quite a bit to be desired in the content department. To temporarily amend this deficiency, sometime over the next few weeks, I plan to start going through all of the posts from the old site and re-posting the ones that I deem worthy.

It probably wouldn’t be that difficult to migrate all of the old content to the new system, but I decided that since the vast majority of it is not particularly interesting, I’ll save the space and hopefully reduce confusion for newer readers (as soon as I get those and maybe some of the old ones back). Basically, I don’t want to have to explain why The Cyberia Project went from few members up to a decent sized group of members and then down to one very open-minded, sexy, delicious, good willed, loving person. If you were wondering about that anyway, I didn’t kill them. I swear.

On an unrelated but sexy note, cyproject.net launched three years ago on this day, July 1st. Happy birthday The Cyberia Project. Additionally, thank you everyone that helped develop the original concept and those that helped that concept grow and evolve.

Bring it on Thomas.

So yeah, I’ve obviously done some things with this little blog. I added pictures, but they don’t seem to update. So they can go right to hell. Victoria was here for the last week or so. That was pretty swell. I’ll spare you the details, and save me the manpoints.

My next steps for this site will be to attempt to develop my own theme. I have an idea for the layout here, but this activity is more of just practice for when I may need to do it for ifsi.org. They’re not really sure what a blog is, they thought it was “chat”, but I could see some applicable use for it that would still leave me a job. And that’s always fun.

My portable workstation is nearing completion. I picked up some new speakers over the weekend, and they actually perform quite well. They also come with a shnazzy little carrying case, “cute” was one description, but regardless they are handy and portable. The USB cable is about as small as…a small USB cable, but that’s easily overcome.

I’m thinking I need an additional external hard drive. The 750 gig is always sitting at 97-99% full, and I really want to get all of Stargate and the rest of MST3k on it. Poor Mac Mini is running out of USB ports. Other than this, all I’m really waiting on is for Dell to have a deal on an XPS1530, which from Billy I’ve heard is awesome and from limited hands on experience I’ve decided is quite good. My Dad also has this awesome SwissArmy bag that holds a laptop and like your life, but I haven’t looked much in to that.

This posts sole intention was a pre-emptive strike against any content cyproject.net may post.
